End of the Week Round-up #22
1st April 2022
I’ve reverted the lead back to what it is usually as I had a few people telling me they missed it because I had changed it, so we’ll keep it this way from now on and I may do a lead sentence like last weeks at the start of the newsletter instead of the title of the newsletter.
And once more I’ve had a little bit of time to work on one of the minor project sites I have, let the picture be a clue…
What I’ve been up to this week and other news.
Finally getting back into the swing of working on various parts of the project after being so ill for such a long time and a lot of that has been down to having an asthma review and getting a better inhaler so I feel less tired than I did.
Added lots more upcoming books, jobs, events, and even more bookshops and publishers to the various lists than I have for a while now.
I’ve even found time to read again.
The new Author Q&A this week is for thriller writer, C L Taylor, why not read about her books and writing process. If you want to be included please contact me at contact@bigbeardedbookseller.com.

How did you come up with the name of your bookshop?
My husband came up with the name, The Book Lounge, which sums up exactly what the shop is. Comfy seating in front of a fire with barista made fresh coffee and homemade cake, a perfect place to spend time browsing the shelves in an atmosphere like home.
Why a bookshop? What made you want to get into bookselling?
I was a high school librarian for 13 years achieving cilip chartership in October 2013 and then taking redundancy in July 2018. Opening a bookshop seemed like a good alternative to running a library where I can still be involved with schools organising author events.
Do you sell mainly new or second-hand books?
I started by selling second-hand books only as I didn’t feel I could compete with the other large booksellers, but over the last 18 months I have started to build up a stock of new books and have recently become a member of the Booksellers Association and now sell and redeem National Book Tokens. I also sell a wide range of book themed gifts and am always looking out for new bookish gifts.
What is your favourite childhood book?
My favourite childhood book was What Katy Did by Susan Coolidge, I read all three in the series and couldn’t put them down. These books were the first books that I had enjoyed reading and started my love of books.
What is the nicest thing a customer has ever said to you?
This is a difficult one, I am regularly told how lovely my shop is with the quirky book counter, stairs and clock but I love it when they say that I am living their dream.
What’s happening next week?
"The cat could very well be man’s best friend but would never stoop to admitting it."
The main task this coming week is still to start putting up ‘stub’ pages for all the indie bookshops and indie publishers that I’ve got listed and turning the website into a proper directory with more information in the site itself and as part of this I’ll be contacting indie bookshops and indie publishers with a view to restarting the #PublisherProfile and #BrowseABookshop features to go along with the Author Q&A feature.
I would still love more authors to be involved in the Q&A feature, I’ve got enough for two months but would like this to be a weekly feature.
And, as always, if you have any news or offers you would like included in the newsletter please email me at contact@bigbeardedbookseller.com and I’ll get it on ASAP.
A reminder that a paid subscription to this newsletter is only the cost of a large coffee once a month. This helps with lots of things but right now it would help with domain and hosting costs for the various projects.
Thanks to the current number of paid subscribers I’ve been able to get a monthly subscription to The Bookseller. Cheers!
All information is going to continue to be free so this is just a thank you to me for collating and developing it all.
